Phytocrene bracteata Wall. – Nanas Batu @Singapore Botanic Gardens (2021 0407)

This native woody climber produces either male or female flowers, and large fruits develop from the female flowers after they are pollinated. The leaves are often three-lobed and the undersides are covered in short, brownish hairs.

The spectacular fruits of the Nanas Batu are putting on another show at the Plant House in the Gardens! Admire them from a safe distance as its young prickly stems and bristles covering the fruit may cause skin irritation.
